Pursue It

“Be strong and courageous.”
Jos 1:9 NIV

PURSUE YOUR DREAM (Part #1)

When it came time for Joshua to take the place of Moses, God said to him, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” And today God is saying the same to you. He wants you to pursue the dream He has put in your heart! Alfred D. Souza wrote: “For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin—real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, and a debt to be paid. Then, life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.” When you encounter obstacles, you discover things about yourself you never knew. You discover the depth of your faith in God—and in yourself. Every problem introduces you to yourself. Obstacles are merely a call to strengthen your position, not surrender your dream. When you look back on your life, you’ll regret the things you didn’t do more than the ones you did. So when your dream looks impossible, trust God and act as though it’s impossible to fail. Why? Because “with God all things are possible” (Mk 10:27 NKJV). That means if you’re going to climb Mount Everest, make sure to bring the flag with you. Don’t listen to those who tell you, “It can’t be done that way.” Or to those who say, “You’re taking too big a chance.” Ignore what people say can’t be done and focus on what God says can be done.

God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF—GOD DOES!

Owning your dream means having your belief in yourself outweigh your fears. A scene in the movie Akeelah and the Bee illustrates the power of believing in yourself, while recognizing the grace that God has given you to do it. The story is about Akeelah, a girl from south Los Angeles who overcomes many obstacles to compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. When her spelling coach, Dr. Larabee, asks her, “Have you got any goals? What would you like to be when you grow up? A doctor, a lawyer, a stand-up comic?” She responds, “I don’t know. The only thing I’m good at is spelling.” Motioning toward a plaque, he tells her, “Go over there and read the quotation that’s on the wall. Read it out loud, please.” She reads, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.” Larabee asks, “What does that mean?” She answers, “That I’m not supposed to be afraid.” He asks, “Afraid of what?” She answers, “Afraid of…me?” You will never embrace your God-given destiny until you first believe in yourself. And that belief comes from knowing: “God is working in [me], giving [me] the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”

Devotion:

REST IN ME, MY CHILD. Give your mind a break from planning and trying to anticipate what will happen. Pray continually, asking My Spirit to take charge of the details of this day. Remember that you are on a journey with Me. When you try to peer into the future and plan for every possibility, you ignore your constant Companion who sustains you moment by moment. As you gaze anxiously into the distance, you don’t even feel the strong grip of My hand holding yours. How foolish you are, My child!

Remembrance of Me is a daily discipline. Never lose sight of My Presence with you. This will keep you resting in Me all day, every day.

1 Thessalonians 5:17; Psalm 62:5

Reflection: This devotion for today was powerful to me. It was a divine assurance to remind me that God is still at work even when we don’t realize and we feel lost. Keep on pressing & let God lead you.
