Poured Out For You

Jesus Anointed by a Sinful Woman

When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. 37 A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. 38 As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.

39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”

40 Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.”

“Tell me, teacher,” he said.

41 “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”

43 Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”

“You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.

44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”

48 Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”

49 The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”

50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

Key Notes:

  1. This woman was not invited but she came because she knew that Jesus was in town.
  2. There is power in one name (Jesus).
  3. This woman came with her most precious accessory. As you and I know, the cost of perfume isn’t cheap but this woman poured all she had on the feet of Jesus. She wasn’t worried about who was around. She was focused on Jesus.
  4. The Pharisee’s on the other hand were too busy worried about the woman’s sinful nature. “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is that she is a sinner.”
  5. This woman came with a broken and contrite heart. Her posture reminded me Psalm 51, David’s outcry for the Lord to have mercy on him. “You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.” When we read this passage about the woman with the alabaster perfume, the main focus isn’t about the perfume but the condition of her heart. She was desperate. She must have been tired of the life that she was living. She was ready to come in contact with her helper, the one and only name above all names. His name is Jesus. He is waiting for you.
  6. The Pharisee’s were too focused on why she poured the perfume. They were rather judgmental. I love Jesus response. “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”
  7. Your faith has saved you. She believed that she can be delivered from her sins. She just didn’t come to meet Jesus and see what he can do but she was sure that she will not leave the same way she came. She received her deliverance.

Questions:

  1. What sins do you need to expose?
  2. What sins are you sick and tired of living in?
  3. How far will you go to receive your deliverance?
  4. Are you comfortable with living in darkness?
  5. What are you waiting for before you get the exposure of light?
  6. Aren’t you tired of the enemy holding you hostage?
  7. Have you prayed about your battles? Have you asked someone in faith to pray over you?

*If you haven’t prayed take the time to pray. If it means that you have to partake in fasting/prayer, seek the Lord before you do so. I have faith that you will be delivered from whatever battles you are facing.

The Prayer of Faith

“Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” -James 5:13-16

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. God bless you. Stay Blessed & Encouraged 🙂

Happy New Year

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. -Isaiah 43:19

THIS YEAR GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE

Two of our biggest fears are failure and criticism. And they never completely go away. You can overcome them, but they’ll show up when you face your next challenge. It’s in accepting fear as part of life’s journey instead of running from it, that you learn to conquer it. Indeed, as you look back at what you’ve already overcome, you realize that most times failure doesn’t do permanent damage you actually grow stronger through it. If you’re anxious today, God is saying to you, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.” So trust Him, and get out of your comfort zone! An unknown poet wrote: “I used to have a comfort zone where I knew I couldn’t fail; the same four walls of busywork were really more like jail. I longed so much to do the things I’d never done before, but stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor. I said it didn’t matter that I wasn’t doing much; I said I didn’t care for things like dreams and goals and such. I claimed to be so busy with the things inside my zone, but deep inside I longed for something special of my own. I couldn’t let my life go by just watching others win; I held my breath and stepped outside and let the change begin. I took a step, and with new strength I’d never felt before, I kissed my comfort zone goodbye, then closed and locked the door. If you are in a comfort zone, afraid to venture out, remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt.” The word for you today is: This year, get out of your comfort zone.

Incredible though it may seem, when Israel encountered difficulties in the wilderness, they wanted to return to their old life of slavery in Egypt. The security of the known was less threatening to them than the challenges of the unknown. So the Lord said to them, not once, but twice, “Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid…[of] them…the Lord your God will…go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor [forsake] you.” Why did He say that? Because it’s in taking action that you overcome your fear! When you challenge your fears, you master them. When you wrestle with your problems, they lose their grip on you. When you dare to confront the things that scare you, you open the door to the future. A wise man once said, “Take the bull by the horns until you have him screaming for mercy.” Almost without exception every man and woman in the Bible whom God called to do great things felt inadequate, and told Him so. And how did God respond to them? “I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand” (Isa 41:10 NLT). Author John Mason writes: “The desire for safety stands against every great and virtuous dream. Security, many times, is the first step toward stagnation. Boldness in vision is the first, second, and third most important thing. If you dare nothing, you should expect nothing.” So whatever opportunity or obstacle you’re facing today, factor God in. With Him on your side, what you have is always greater than whatever you lack.

Heart Of Praise

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. -1 Thessalonians 5:18

The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. -Psalm 126:3

How has this year been for you? As I sat down to reflect, a lot of questions flooded my mind. Below are the questions. If you can, take the time to reflect alone or with a friend/loved one. I don’t know what this year has looked like for you but I’m here to remind you that no matter what storms came your way, God is still with you. It may not have been easy but by the grace of God, you are alive. Many times, the trials we face are connected to our calling. Some seasons are much tougher than other but this all a part of the preparation.

Reflection 2017 (2)

18 “Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
    and streams in the wasteland.

-Isaiah 43:18-19

Song of the day: God I Look To You (Kalley Heiligenthal)

God I look to You, I won’t be overwhelmed
Give me vision to see things like You do
God I look to You, You’re where my help comes from
Give me wisdom; You know just what to do

I will love You Lord my strength
I will love You Lord my shield
I will love You Lord my rock forever
All my days I will love You God

Hallelujah our God reigns
Hallelujah our God reigns
Hallelujah our God reigns
Forever all my days Hallelujah

I’ve Got A Testimony

Where do I even begin? A few months ago, I reached out to my mentor and she never responded. Days turned into weeks then months. I never heard anything from her. To be honest, I became very worried because usually when I message her, she responds within a fews days due to her busy schedule and her condition (sickle cell anemia). I prayed and cast all my cares unto God but on one sudden day in September, I felt the Holy Spirit telling me to buy a card. At that point, I’ve called, text her and she wasn’t responding. I got tired of constantly reaching out and to no avail, no response. On the week I was going to purchase the card, I didn’t have a ride to go to the store. The following week I was heading to a fabric store. Near by, there was a card store. To be honest, I didn’t know what card I was going to purchase for my mentor so I asked my mom and immediately she said “Thinking Of You Card”. I was filled with joy because initially I wasn’t sure what I was going to get. I walked in and there were a few cards in the store because the card store was being renovated. My mother directed me to a section with some cards but the cards in that section wasn’t what I was looking for. I walked to the other section and I’m telling you there were only two cards in the “Thinking Of You” section but my eyes set on one specific card. I read it and immediately rushed to show it to my mom. She was blown by the words on the card. I purchased the card and went on my way to the fabric store. When I arrived home, I was thinking about what to write in the card. I didn’t know what to write so I prayed about it, wrote in the card and the next day, I placed the card in the mailbox.

On that very day, my friend came to pick me up for us to head out. On our way out of the driveway, my eyes gazed at the mailbox and realized that my card was still there but the mail woman had already delivered our mail for the day. My card was already there before she arrived. Due to this, my friend drove me to the post office only for me to find out that I needed to add another stamp since the card was heading to Canada. I had put two stamps. So everything got settled and the card got shipped out towards the end of September. I traveled out of the country. While on vacation, I called her number but once again, no response. I realized that she also deleted her Viber account which was our only way of contact. At this point, I just left it alone. My initial thoughts were that she was either going through a tough season or she was on an assignment for the Lord. Sometimes, all you can do is pray and release all your cares to God. A few days ago, I was expressing my thoughts to my cousin, telling her how I hope my mentor was doing well.

Today, as I was sitting down listening to my music, my mother called me telling me that there was a card for me. The moment I saw the address, I was able to identify who sent me the card. The card didn’t have the name in the front. Before opening the card, I prayed over it with my heart filled with gratitude. I couldn’t help but cry and smile. God is so Good. I’m just so happy that my mentor is doing well by God’s Grace. I share this to tell you that if you are reaching out to someone, don’t give up. Don’t lose hope. Commit them unto God’s hands but be obedient to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Cast all your cares unto God and know that he is Control. What an awesome God we serve. I forgot to take a picture of the card before sending it. A few weeks later, I went back to the card store and saw the card. Here is a picture of the card . God bless you all. 🙂

“You will be my witnesses.”
Ac 1:8 NIV

GOD USES ORDINARY PEOPLE (1)

A witness is someone who sees and experiences an event, then testifies to it in court in a way that convinces others. And that’s what you have been called to do! You say, “But I don’t feel qualified.” God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called. And don’t let Satan convince you otherwise, because he will try. He will tell you God has an IQ requirement, or an entry fee; that He employs only specialists, experts, and high-powered personalities. No, Jesus said to His disciples, “You will be my witnesses…to the ends of the earth.” You uneducated and simple folk. You temperamental net casters and tax collectors. “You will be my witnesses.” The one thing the disciples had going for them was their willingness to take a step when Jesus said, “Follow me.” So if you’re more plumber than executive, or more blue jeans than blue blood, you’re qualified! “Few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And He chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful” (1Co 1:26-27 NLT). So pray: “Lord, You’ve called me into Your Kingdom to serve You in this specific place, at this specific time, and for this specific purpose. Despite my ordinariness I belong to You—and You are anything but ordinary! Today help me to pour out Your grace and compassion upon others, that they too may experience the richness of Your love.”

Present In Every Situation

“I was not aware of it.”
Ge 28:16 NIV

BE “AWARE” OF GOD IN YOUR SITUATION

One night Jacob had a dream. He saw a ladder with angels on it extending all the way up to heaven, and God said to him, “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go” (v. 15 NIV). The next morning Jacob said, “The Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” When it comes to recognizing God at work in your life, you can be spiritually tuned in, or be like Jacob and not be “aware” of Him. It was business as usual for Moses the day he noticed the burning bush—not an uncommon sight in a hot desert climate. Except this time the bush kept burning, and “when…he turned aside to look, God called to him” (Ex 3:4 NKJV). You’ll have some of your greatest encounters with God in the everyday experiences of life. But you have to be open and receptive, otherwise you’ll miss Him. Author William Barry says: “Whether we’re aware of it or not, at every moment of our existence we’re encountering God…who is trying to catch our attention…to draw us into a reciprocal conscious relationship.” And you never know where He’ll appear, or through whom He’ll speak. After the resurrection, Mary Magdalene thought Jesus was just the gardener. Paul writes, “Wake up…sleeper” (Eph 5:14 NIV). You can be awakened by a miraculous healing, a restored relationship, or even a great trial. Don’t just look for God in your triumphs; look for Him in your troubles too. Theologian Frederick Buechner said, “There is no event so commonplace but that God is present, leaving you room to recognize or not to recognize Him.”

Takeaways: Sometimes, God will cause things to happen in our lives that will cause us to position our eyes on him.

Familiarity of who God is and what he does can hinder us from truly experiencing him.

Jesus loves you. Have a blessed day 🙂
